Wildfires Force Evacuation of Jasper National Park, Clogging Highway

Emergency Alert Issued as Fire Threatens Town and Park

Thousands Evacuated as Smoke Chokes Mountain Route

Jasper, AB (July 23, 2024) - Cars clogged the highway as people evacuated from Jasper National Park on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, due to dangerous wildfires. The authorities in the province of Alberta issued an emergency alert on Monday for the park and the town of Jasper, warning of the growing threat from the wildfire.

Late Monday evening, the wildfire roared into the area, forcing the evacuation of approximately 4,700 residents and visitors. The evacuees were directed to travel eastbound along the Yellowhead Highway towards British Columbia, causing significant traffic congestion.

Smoke from the wildfire choked the air, reducing visibility and making the evacuation route dangerous. Motorists were advised to drive with caution and use their headlights. Officials urged evacuees to be aware of the hazardous conditions and to avoid traveling if possible.

The wildfire continues to burn actively, and officials are closely monitoring the situation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
