KC Locks Down Rising Star
The Kansas City Royals have made a major investment in their future, signing shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. to an 11-year, $288.8 million contract extension.
This contract is the longest and most lucrative in franchise history, surpassing the previous record of 10 years and $155 million set by Alex Gordon in 2016.
The deal includes a $74.575 million signing bonus and guarantees Witt $74.575 million in the first year. The remaining $214.225 million will be paid out over the next 10 years, with an average annual salary of $26.2 million.
This extension is a reflection of Witt's immense talent and potential. The 23-year-old has quickly become one of the most promising young players in baseball, earning a Gold Glove Award and a Silver Slugger Award in just his second season.
With this historic contract, the Royals have signaled their commitment to building a winning team around Witt, who they believe can be the face of the franchise for years to come.
