Angels' Mike Trout to Undergo Knee Surgery
Details Scarce After All-Star's Latest Injury
Star Center Fielder Expected to Miss Significant Time
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, the team announced Tuesday. The severity of the injury and a timeline for his return are unknown. Trout had been limited to just 67 games this season due to a back injury, but he had returned to the lineup on July 14 and hit .285/.429/.552 with 17 home runs in that span.
This is the first time Trout has landed on the injured list in his 14-year MLB career. He had gotten off to a torrid start to the season, launching a league-best 10 home runs to go with 14 RBI and a .867 OPS through 29 games. Trout's injury is a major blow to the Angels, who are currently in a wild-card race. The team is 58-56 and trails the Tampa Bay Rays by a half-game for the second wild-card spot.
