Broncos Make Roster Moves, Release Veteran Kicker Brandon McManus
Former Giant McCaffrey Joins Denver as Free Agent, McLaughlin Signed as Rookie
Broncos Bolster Depth with Latest Acquisitions
The Denver Broncos have made several roster moves this week, including the addition of former New York Giants running back Jaleel McCaffrey and the signing of rookie running back Jaleen McLaughlin.
McCaffrey, a third-round pick by the Giants in 2021, joins the Broncos as a free agent after spending the past two seasons in New York. The 24-year-old running back has shown promise in his limited opportunities, rushing for 189 yards on 51 carries in 2021 and adding 26 receptions for 202 yards and a touchdown.
McLaughlin, a former standout at the University of North Carolina, was signed by Denver as an unrestricted free agent on March 15, 2023. The 22-year-old running back rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his last two seasons with the Tar Heels.
Broncos Release Veteran Kicker Brandon McManus
In addition to the running back moves, the Broncos also announced the release of veteran kicker Brandon McManus on Monday. The 31-year-old kicker had been with the Broncos for nine seasons and was a key part of their Super Bowl 50 victory in 2016.
McManus was released with a post-June 1 designation, meaning the Broncos will save $3.2 million against their salary cap this year. However, they will be responsible for paying McManus the remaining $2.8 million on his contract over the next two years.
Dove Valley Hosts Local Standout Players
This week also marked the hosting of formal visits by local standout players at Dove Valley, the Broncos' practice facility. The team hosted prospects from the University of Colorado, Colorado State University, and the University of Northern Colorado.
